CHESTER, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- New York State Police arrested a Chester, Orange County man on Saturday after allegedly shooting a lost DoorDash delivery driver. New York State Police said John J. Reilly III, 48, is facing multiple charges in the non-fatal shooting.
Troopers said around 9:50 p.m. on Friday, the Bureau of Criminal Investigations in Middletown was notified about a man being treated at Garnet Health Medical Center with a gunshot wound in his back. In a preliminary investigation, Troopers said the victim was making a DoorDash delivery in the Valerie Drive neighborhood in Chester when they became lost and unable to navigate using the app.
The victim stopped at several homes asking for directions before arriving at Reilly's home. Reilly told the victim to get off his property and allegedly fired multiple shots at the delivery driver as they tried leaving, striking him in the back.
Troopers said Reilly is the current Town of Chester Highway Supervisor and a federally licensed firearm dealer. The investigation continues alongside the Orange County District Attorney's Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
Reilly was arraigned in the Orange County Centralized Arraignment Part and remains in Orange County Jail. Reilly's bail was set at $250,000 cash, $500,000 bond, or $750,000 partially secured bond.
