13-year-old from Schenectady arrested after alleged school shooting threat

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A Schenectady teenager has been arrested after allegedly making an online school shooting threat, according to the Schenectady Police Department on Wednesday. The 13-year-old female has reportedly been charged with a felony.

On Wednesday morning, Schenectady police detectives were notified by the Federal Bureau of Investigation of an online school shooting threat posted in a TikTok comments section, police said. The threat did not include any specific individuals or schools within the Schenectady City School District, according to authorities.

Officials tracked the IP address of the commenter and allegedly traced it to a residence within the city of Schenectady. The police responded to the traced address and found a 13-year-old female that allegedly made the threat, according to the department.

Police did not find any weapons at the address, authorities said. The suspect was brought to the police department's Youth Aid Bureau and was charged with making a terroristic threat, a class D felony.

Schenectady police have been in contact with the Schenectady City School District. No other threats have been found, officials said.
