Investigation into fatal shooting of border patrol agent ongoing
COVENTRY, Vt. (NEWS10) -- The FBI released new information on the fatal shooting of a border patrol agent in Vermont.
Federal officials said Agent David Maland was conducting a traffic stop around 3:15 p.m. Tuesday on I-91 in Coventry, Vt., and there were two people in the car he stopped.
Investigators said one of them was killed, and the other was injured in an exchange of gunfire. The injured person was arrested.
The suspected shooter's identity is not being shared; however, the one killed was a German national in the United States on a current Visa. Vermont Gov. Tim Scott acknowledged an increasing need for help in Vermont's border with Canada.
"I think there is a need for more resources," he said. "They certainly have suggested that, so hopefully, they will get the support they need -- the federal support."
The investigation remains ongoing.
