Troy man sentenced for weapon possession in connection to May shooting
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- A Troy man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for possessing a loaded gun during a Second Avenue shooting in May 2024. Daquan Arrington, 25, will also be required to serve five years of probation.
On Sunday, May 26, Albany police were called to the 300-block of Second Avenue for reports of a shooting. When on scene, police reported finding a car that had been struck by gunfire while two people were inside the vehicle.
Arrington was later identified as the suspect and found with a nine-millimeter handgun, tying him to the shooting. He was charged with reckless endangerment in the first degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, and criminal possession of stolen property.
In November, Arrington pleaded guilty to the criminal possession of a weapon in the second-degree charge. He also pleaded guilty to a charge in connection to a drive-by shooting that happened 10 days after the Second Avenue shooting.
On June 5, officers responded to reports of a shooting near Second Street and Quail Street. Upon arrival they reported finding a 46-year-old woman with a gunshot wound in her leg and a 13-year-old boy with a grazed bullet would in his arm.
Later that night, police received notification from Albany Memorial Hospital that a 30-year-old man, Javon Ward, entered the emergency room with a gunshot wound to his back. He was later transported and pronounced dead at the Albany Medical Center.
Arrington was identified to be the driver in the drive-by shooting. In August, he pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder, two counts of second-degree attempted murder, two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and two counts of first-degree reckless endangerment.
In November, he pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in the homicide case. Arrington faces 25 years in prison and five years of probation for the manslaughter charge. He will reappear in Albany County Court for sentencing on January 27.
