Arrest made in November shooting in Opelousas

OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) -- A man wanted in connection with a November shooting in Opelousas has been arrested, authorities said.

Travion Anthony Williams Jones, 18, is charged with attempted second degree murder, illegal use of weapons and dangerous instrumentalities and illegal possession of a stolen firearm. Jones was apprehended in Point Coupee Parish and will be transported back to St. Landry Parish to face these charges, officials said.

The shooting took place Nov. 18 at Jim Bowie Plaza off of Larry Street, where witnesses said a man was shot in the face, according to Opelousas Police Chief Graig Leblanc.

“The assistance from the public played a crucial role in this investigation,” Leblanc said. “When our citizens step forward and share what they know, it helps us solve cases more quickly and sends a clear message that violence will not be tolerated in Opelousas. I urge everyone to continue working with us to take back our community.”

Information can also be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 337-948-TIPS, via email at crimetips@opelousaspd.com, or through the P3 mobile App. Tipsters may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the identification and apprehension of those responsible.
