Manu Bhaker In Women 25m Pistol Event At Paris Olympics 2024: When And Where To Watch Indian Shooting Star In Action
The biggest fairytale story for India at the Paris Olympics 2024 has surely been shooter Manu Bhaker. The 22-year-old broke a 124-year-old record by become the first Indian athlete to win two medals in a single edition of the Olympic Games.
Now, the Haryana shooter is bidding to become the first-ever Indian to bag three individual medals in Olympic Games. The road to the hat-trick of medals begins on Friday (August 2) when Manu Bhaker competes in the qualifying event of the women 25m air pistol event.
Manu has already won a bronze in the women 10m air pistol event and then combined with Sarabjot Singh to win another bronze medal in the 10m air pistol mixed team event. The top 8 shooters from Friday’s qualifying of 25m air pistol will be competing in the final on Saturday (August 3).
Apart from Manu Bhaker, the 25m air pistol qualifying event also features India’s Esha Singh. Among the biggest challengers for Manu Bhaker in this event will be Germany’s Doreen Vennekamp, who is the current world No. 1 in this event.
Doreen has won the World Shooting Championship gold in Baku in 2023. She also owns the mixed 25m Standard Pistol Team Worlds gold. The German shooter also includes one World Cup Final and three World Cup gold medals after her seventh-place finish in Tokyo Olympics 2020.
But Manu had obtained a Paris 2024 Olympic quota for India after finishing fifth in the women’s 25m pistol event at the 2023 Asian Shooting Championships. She clinched the women’s 25m team pistol title at the Asian Games last year.
Manu Bhaker is also the first Indian shooter and first female athlete from the country to win a gold medal at the Youth Olympics from Buenos Aires 2018.
