Paris Olympics 2024: Abhinav Bindra, PM Modi Congratulate Manu Bhaker After 22-Year-Old Wins Shooting Bronze

New Delhi: India’s only shooting gold medallist at the Olympics, Abhinav Bindra hailed Manu Bhaker’s dedication, hard work and passion after the latter claimed the country’s first medal at the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024 on Sunday. The 22-year-old Bhaker, who hails from Jhajjar in Haryana, fought hard to get the bronze with a score of 221.7 in the women’s 10m air pistol final event.

Korea’s Kim Yeji claimed the silver with a total of 241.3 while her compatriot Jin Ye Oh bagged the gold with a Games record of 243.2. She also became the first Indian female shooter and fifth overall from the country to win an Olympic medal.

PM Modi called Bhaker’s feat as ‘historic’. “A historic medal! Well done, @realmanubhaker, for winning India’s FIRST medal at #ParisOlympics2024! Congrats for the Bronze. This success is even more special as she becomes the 1st woman to win a medal in shooting for India. An incredible achievement!,” he said.

India cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir took his time out to congratulate Bhaker. “Congratulations #ManuBhaker on getting India’s first medal! You’ve made ???????? proud!” said Gambhir.

India’s first shooting Olympic medallist Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore also congratulated the youngster.
