Angel Reese stuns Caitlin Clark in impromptu half-court shooting contest at WNBA All-Star Weekend

0 2

Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark’s college rivalry has continued into their WNBA careers.

Their respective LSU and Iowa teams faced off in the 2023 national title game and again in the Final Four this past season, and now, the top-10 draft picks are both vying for the league’s Rookie of the Year Award as the top two contenders.

However, they’re putting aside their competition this weekend as they’re teammates in the WNBA All-Star Game, which will be held on Saturday night at 8:30 p.m. ET.

That temporary truce was seemingly set aside during practice on Friday as they faced off in a seemingly informal half-court shooting contest. And while Reese is most known for her play in the post compared to the three-point specialist Clark, it was the former who drilled a shot from half-court first.

Reese has faced some criticism this season for her shooting struggles, which have improved recently, though she’s still shooting just over 40% on the season. She’s still managed to be impactful in spite of those struggles, averaging a double-double on the year while also setting the WNBA record for consecutive double-doubles with 15.

She’s also easily on pace to set the league’s rookie record for double-doubles in a season (22) as she has 17 in 23 games with 16 to go.

While I don’t think anyone would take Reese over Clark in a three-point contest, it’s certainly an impressive feat from a player who makes her money in the paint and on the boards.
