The Porsche Boxster Looks Stunning as a Custom Shooting Brake

0 5

Among enthusiasts, and especially auto writers like us, there are a few clichés that we’re almost embarrassed to admit are true. Brown cars? We love ‘em. Wagons? We’ll sing their praises from the hills even though no one’s gonna buy one unless it’s a Subaru Outback. Shooting brakes are the ultimate catnip to us—and they’re usually not sold on these shores. This Miami Blue Porsche Boxster Shooting Brake, a custom job, but with production intent as a conversion kit, is irresistible to us.

What’s especially cool about this Boxster project is that it was designed by some engineering students out of Fontys Hogeschool Eindhoven in the Netherlands. Several students came up with the project, assisted by van Thull Development, a shop that does composite bodywork mainly for Porsches and Dakar racers. A design outfit called van Berlo also helped with styling. Together, they transformed a first-generation Boxster into a very svelte, very modern-looking sports wagon.

The reason this doesn’t look much like a first-generation Boxster anymore is that van Thull produces later-model 911 front end conversions already, so that was fitted to this car. The rear hatch is a Peugeot unit, which looks right at home.

Our favorite detail on this conversion is the air inlets integrated into the rear quarter windows. These windows, along with the doors, were taken from a Porsche 911, so the vents are both functional and also serve to blend the windows better with the overall lines of the car. It just goes to show the detail and thought involved with this build.

If you’ve got a first-generation Boxster sitting around in need of a serious style and utility injection, get a hold of van Thull. They’ll be using this initial project car as a basis for a composite body kit which, with a significant amount of bodywork, they’ll be able to convert customer cars. Don’t expect this to be a bolt-on affair, though.
