Two friends arrested for alcohol-fuelled gunfight after shooting each other while wearing a bulletproof vest
TWO friends are facing up to six years behind bars after reportedly shooting each other while wearing bulletproof vests.
Charles Eugene Ferris, 50, and Christopher Hicks, 36, were arrested in Arkansas, US, after neighbours claimed they were drunkenly peppering each other with gunfire in the back garden.
An embarrassed Ferris reportedly told cops an elaborate story of how an “asset” paid him £150 for protection.
He told how they met another man in the evening and ended up in a gunfight where he was hit a couple of times – before the culprit fled in a car.
But it was all a lie in an attempt to cover his friend.
According to Newsweek, what really happened was Ferris was enjoying drinks with his mate Christopher Hicks, 36, when they started playing with a bulletproof vest.
Ferris then asked Hicks to shoot him in the chest in which he duly obliged.
It is further reported that Ferris was left angry at the pain and then unleashed five bullets into the back of Hicks who took his turn to wear the vest.
A neighbour told news channel 5News: “I have three kids, two of them still live at home here… right next to them. They shoot as many as 50 to 100 rounds at a time. I just want to make sure it’s not just left hanging, no charges.
“There has to be something done about it. If nothing is done it could escalate into someone getting seriously injured. Maybe somebody that is not on their property,”
The pair could now face up to six years in jail and a £7600 fine. Their court hearing takes place on May 13.
