[Men's Basketball] Hot Shooting Spring Arbor Tops Men's Basketball

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – No. 23 Spring Arbor upset No. 1 Indiana Wesleyan University men’s basketball by a 96-86 score on Saturday in Spring Arbor, Michigan. The Cougars rarely missed from beyond the arc and featured five players in double figures as the Wildcats dropped a second straight Crossroads League game.


SECOND HALF SURGE

Indiana Wesleyan led 55-53 on a Seth Maxwell bucket with 15 minutes left in the game. Spring Arbor responded with 12 of the next 14 points, which was part of a 20-6 run, as SAU led 73-61 midway through the second half. IWU would get no closer than five points the rest of the game.


BEYOND THE ARC

Spring Arbor shot 57.9-percent from 3-point range on 11-of-19 shooting. Five of the first six SAU field goals were triples as they raced out to an early 19-14 lead.


BENCH PLAY

The Cougars had five players score double digits but two of those players came off the bench. The Cougar bench outscored the Wildcat bench 33-16.


RARE LOSS

Indiana Wesleyan has dominated the series with Spring Arbor over the past five seasons. The win for Spring Arbor is just their second in 12 games vs. Indiana Wesleyan dating back to January 2014.


NEXT FOR THE WILDCATS

Indiana Wesleyan travels to Lakeland, Florida next weekend for a pair of games at the SEU Invitational. IWU battles host and No. 11-ranked Southeastern (Fla.) on Friday, December 14 and then plays #RV Warner (Fla.) on Saturday, December 15.
