[Women's Basketball] Hornets Pick Up First Conference Win of Season

SAINT LOUIS, MO- The Hornets bounced back from their tough loss to Missouri Baptist University with a 69-57 win over the Eutectics of Saint Louis College of Pharmacy.

Takesia Barnes (SO/Memphis, TN) had another impressive game with her third double-double this season; she posted 23 points on 10-12 shooting and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds. Jay'La Davis (SR/St. Louis, MO) and Jordan May (SO/St. Louis, MO) both hit scored double digits with 14 and 12, respectively, while Tarsheia Page (SO/Chicago, IL) dished out a game high five assists.

STLCOP's Morgan Rose led the offensive efforts with 13 points while Allison Dewald (12), Michon Forrest (12), and Morgan Dermody (11) all chipped in double digits as well.

Harris-Stowe came out cold in the first quarter, not seeing their first lead until Tyler Maufas (FR/Saint Louis, MO) laid in a shot with 2:25 left in the quarter. A lay-up from May at the end of the quarter would give the Hornets a 12-9 lead.

HSSU and STLCOP would trade baskets in the second quarter, keeping the contest close. But, free-throws from Kierra Weir (SO/Springfield, IL) and Page would edge the Hornets to a 30-23 advantage going into the half.

The Hornets began to pull away from the Eutectics in the third quarter thanks to a 13-3 run. A shot from Surina Finnie (FR/Memphis, TN) with 1:45 left in the quarter pushed the Hornets to a 14 lead heading into the final 10 minutes of play.

Saint Louis College of Pharmacy would not be able to stop the Hornets' offense in the final quarter; Harris-Stowe shot 50% from the field in the final minutes of play to give themselves the 69-57 win.

Harris-Stowe finished the game shooting 57% from the floor and 27% from behind the arc. As a team, they dished out 20 assists and recorded four blocks.

The Hornets (3-4; 1-3 AMC) will be back in action next Saturday when they travel to Nevada, MO to face off against the Comets of Cottey College. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
