Penguins to honor Tree of Life Victims with special jersey patch

0 3

Penguins will honor the Tree of Life shooting victims with a special jersey patch featuring the Penguins logo intertwined with the Star of David. Game jerseys from tonight will be auctioned off to help support the victims and their families.

Ahead of this evening’s game against the Islanders at PPG Paints Arena, the Penguins already announced several initiatives to help the victims of Saturday’s tragic shooting at Tree of Life Synagogue in Squirrel Hill. In addition to hosting a blood drive on Monday, the team will hold a collection to raise money for the victims and their families during tonight’s contest.

Earlier today, the Penguins announced an additional fundraising effort to help the community cope with the tragedy. Special patches will be worn by the players during tonight’s game against the Islanders to honor the victims, then the jerseys from the game are to be auctioned off with all proceeds going to support the victims.

The patches that will appear on the jerseys feature the standard Penguins logo with a second triangle behind the logo to help form the Star of David, the symbol of Judaism. Underneath the logo is the phrase “Stronger Than Hate,” which has been a common theme emanating from the city since the shooting.

Following the game, each player will autograph their jersey and the game sweaters will be put up for auction here. If you don’t want to bid on one of the jerseys, the website also offers the option to give a one time donation in the amount of a players’ jersey number or any denomination of your choosing.

Along with the collection and jersey auction, the team also announced that all proceeds from tonight’s 50/50 contest will be donated to the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh and a fund created by the Pittsburgh Department of Safety to support the police injured during the attack.

All information on the Penguins fundraising efforts in relation to the Tree of Life Synagogue attack can be found on the Penguins website by clicking here.

As a member of the Penguins community, we here at Pensburgh have decided to hold a pledge drive where all proceeds will be donated to the victims and their families. If you wish to join, you can find all the instructions on how to so at the link above. Our drive will cover the next three Penguins games beginning tonight against the Islanders.
