[Men's Basketball] Montreat Powers Past St. Andrews

MONTREAT, N.C. - On a night that saw junior Alonzo Mobley (JR/Lincolnton, NC) top 1,000 career points, the Montreat Cavaliers remained at the top of the AAC with a 67-59 win over visiting St. Andrews.

The Cavaliers (9-0, 4-0) went into the halftime break shooting just 29% (10/36) from the floor and trailing the Knights, 27-25. In the second half they nearly doubled that, hitting 16/29 for a 55% clip. Montreat came out of the locker room and surged to a nine-point lead that gradually eroded to a 47-47 tie with 7:43 left in the game. 

The Cavs saved their best for last as they built the lead to 11 points with less than a minute remaining before St. Andrews hit a three-pointer to narrow the margin to eight just before time expired.

To punctuate his career milestone, Mobley led all Cavaliers with 16 points. Jeron Hemphill (JR/Morganton, NC) led Montreat with nine rebounds and also contributed three assists. 

Offensively, Jalen White (SR/Charlotte, NC) was the only other Cavalier in double-digits with 12 points. Long-range threats Terrell Sheffey (SO/Hampton, VA), Austin Butler (SO/Morganton, NC), and David Caldwell (JR/Charlotte, NC) each registered a pair of field goals from beyond the three-point arc.

St. Andrews' Jordan Hines led all scorers with 21 points.

Next Up: The Cavaliers travel to Barbourville, Tennessee to face the #2 Union Bulldogs (4-3, 2-1) at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
