[Men's Basketball] Miner's 22 Points Leads Hornets to First Conference Win of the Season

ST. LOUIS, MO- The (RV) Hornets broke their slump tonight with a 78-65 win over the Lions of Freed-Hardeman University.

Dwane Miner (SR/Gates County, NC) lead all scorers with 22 points on 7-10 of shooting. Deandre Clark (JR/Orange, VA) and Christian Wimbley (JR/St. Louis, MO) combined for 30 points while Corey Wells, Jr. chipped in 10 points. Freed-Hardeman was lead by Marcus Baldwin and Kortland Martin who had 16 and 14 points, respectively. Baldwin lead all players with 11 rebounds.

Harris-Stowe came out hot in the first half shooting 50% from the field. Miner was the leading force for the Hornets 43 point hafl as he scored 16 of his 22 points in the first 20 minutes of the game. 

As the Hornets continued to make shot after shot, the Lions were still searching for their first bucket of the game with just over 13 minutes left in the first half. Jalen Thompson broke FHU's blank scoreboard off a bank shot in the lane to cut Harris-Stowe's lead to 18-2. The Hornets defense stayed tight as they limited Freed-Hardeman to just 20 points and went into the half with a comfortable 23 point lead.

FHU did not roll over. The Lions fought their way back from a 27 point deficit to get within seven of the Hornets. As HSSU went cold in the second half, Freed-Hardeman found their groove and slowly chipped away at HSSU's lead. Key free-throws from Clark, Wimbley, and Wells, Jr. in the last two minutes of the game kept the Hornets far enough ahead to defeat the Lions at the final buzzer.

Harris-Stowe (2-3; 1-0 AMC) will continue conference play this Saturday when they take on Williams Baptist College. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
