Under 16 Girls Leinster Final
This coming Saturday our Under 16 Girls will travel to Mullingar RFC to take part in their first Leinster final as part of the amalgamated squad with St Marys RFC and DLSP called De La Marys. This is the first time that Old Wesley Girls will be taking part in a Leinster Final and is another crucial stepping stone in the development of the girls within the club.
The current squad of players started with Cate and Georgie back in the 2021/2022 season as they were working with their mixed group at Under 11 under the coaching skills of Ronan, Neville and Chris and were holding their own. Then in the summer of 2022 we first held our IRFU Canterbury Give It A Try programme and along came Grace, Rebecca and Isabella. A season as Under 12’s with other members and retention into the Under 14 age group happened. We merged with DLSP to create De La Wes and then in the 2024 they were joined by Izzy and Faith and then this year Sasha started with the squad.
Its been a long journey helping to create a vibrant girls atmosphere, breaking down perceptions and barriers and helping the girls to create their own journey under the Old Wesley banner.
Now comes the next step with a Leinster final and we cant wait to see what happens next.
A massive good luck to the squad for Saturday and no matter what the result, thank you for all your hard work and effort in putting Old Wesley on the map in terms of girls rugby in Metro and Leinster. You are all great sportswomen, role models and ambassadors for your club and sport.
It wont be long until we have the end result of the current development with a Senior Womens team and we cant wait!!!
