Pontypridd v Llangennech – Match Preview

0 8

On Saturday 17th January Pontypridd RFC play Llangennech RFC at Sardis Road in the Admiral Premiership, kick off is at 2:30pm.

Ponty travelled to face the Bois y Llan earlier in the season on Saturday 20th September 2025, and came away from Llangennech Main Field with a hard-fought 27-19 win thanks to tries from Iestyn Harris, Louis Tovey and Joe Davies. Llangennech’s only prior visit to Sardis Road was last season on Saturday 18th January 2025 when the Valley Commandos secured a big win by 66 points to 28.

It’s 1st versus 9th tomorrow afternoon with Pontypridd’s aspirations firmly locked onto remaining at the top of the Premiership standings – all the best lads.

The Team News…

Ponty have made five changes to the starting XV that played Narberth last Saturday – four in the backs, one in the forwards and there are also two debutants. In addition to the changes there are also two positional switches in the starting line-up, and three new faces amongst the replacements.

In the forwards Louis Tovey starts at hooker, with the two positional switches seeing skipper Cally James return to the pack on the flank after his shift in the centre last week and Jordan Coxley moving from openside flanker to no.8.

In the backs Joe Davies returns to the matchday squad and starts on the wing, and it’s ‘take-two’ for Lloyd Wilkins who was due to make his return to the club on permit from Bridgend Ravens two weeks ago in the postponed match against Brecon. The other two new faces in the backline will see Pontypridd debuts for Logan Jones at flyhalf and Jake Lee at inside centre. Logan is on permit from Treorchy and Jake is on permit from Bedwas respectively. The more eagle-eyed of you will note that Jake played against Ponty when Bedwas visited Sardis Road for a friendly back in November.

The three new faces in the matchday squad on the bench are Iestyn Harris, who has made a welcome return from injury, along with Dan Cotterell and George Thorrington who are also drafted in.

The Pontypridd team selected to play Llangennech is as follows:

15. Lloyd Wilkins. 14. Joe Davies. 13. Stuart Floyd-Ellis. 12. Jake Lee. 11. Dale Stuckey. 10. Logan Jones. 9. Joel Raikes.

1. Ben Drew. 2. Louis Tovey. 3. Kian Mattravers. 4. Mitch Barnard. 5. Lloyd Riley. 6. Cai James. 7. Cally James (c). 8. Jordan Coxley.
