Pontypridd v Bedwas – Match Preview
On Thursday 20th November Pontypridd RFC play Bedwas RFC in a friendly match at Sardis Road, kick off is at 7:15pm.
Matches between the two clubs go back the best part of half a century, the first taking place on 21st February 1979 at Sardis Road. The home side won that encounter by 24 points to 6. Since the start of the ‘semi-pro’ era matches between Ponty and Bedwas were a regular part of the fixture list for around 15 years before the men from The Bridge Field were unfortunately relegated from the Welsh Premiership at the end of the 2018-19 campaign.
The last meeting between Ponty and Bedwas took place at Sardis Road nearly seven years ago, when on Saturday 15th December 2018 the home side triumphed by 54 points to 17.
Arguably the most memorable clash between the two clubs was the Challenge Cup final at the Brewery Field on Saturday 9th April 2016. A stirring second half come back from Bedwas was in vain, just, as Ponty secured victory by a 38-34 scoreline in an epic showpiece final.
Tomorrow’s match sees second in the Welsh Premiership take on first in Championship East, with Steve Law’s men on track to return to the top league next season. For Pontypridd Thursday evening will be a great opportunity to give valuable game time to members of the squad whilst helping to nurture others back to full fitness following injuries.

Tickets – Admission on Thursday will be £5 full, £3 concession access-all-areas and under 16’s free if accompanied by a paying adult. You can purchase tickets on the day via cash or card payment.
Supporter access is via the Clubhouse end of the ground only.
