Neath v Pontypridd – Matchday Preview
Next up for Pontypridd RFC is a return to Admiral Premiership action following a one-week hiatus when the team travel to play Neath RFC. The match takes place at The Gnoll this Saturday 1st November and it kicks off at 2:30pm.
It’s only just over four weeks since Ponty travelled to The Gnoll to defend their Welsh Cup crown against the Welsh All Blacks on Saturday 27th September. However, it wasn’t meant to be for the Valley Commandos who, despite outscoring the home team by three tries to two, relinquished their hold on the famous old trophy after succumbing to a 23-19 loss. That reverse is Pontypridd’s only defeat so far this season, with the team having won all three matches since.
The Premiership is now the sole focus for Ponty and the team will know what to fully expect against a Neath side who also have league aspirations in their sights come the end of the 2025/26 campaign.
Pontypridd are still sitting at the top of the Premiership standings after winning all six of their league outings to date, picking up 29 out of a possible 30 league points in the process. The Valley Commandos’ last league match was a hard-fought 26-19 win against Cross Keys at Sardis two Saturdays ago, whilst Neath, who are currently sitting in fourth place, lost 41-31 away at Bargoed in their last Premiership encounter. Whilst Ponty have just had a ‘week off,’ Neath travelled to Beddau in the Welsh Cup on Saturday and the result literally could not have been any closer – the match finished 17-all and it was Neath who progressed through on try count after outscoring Beddau three tries to two.
A new chapter in the Pontypridd-Neath rivalry will again be etched on Saturday, with Ponty looking to make it seven league wins in a row against the team who knocked them out of this season’s Welsh Cup just four weeks ago – c’mon the Pont!
