Thompson looks to be on the move

Luke Thompson is one of the best forwards on the planet at the moment.

It was a treat seeing Thompson play in England during the Rugby League World Cup after all it’s been years since we’ve seen him play on British soil with the 2019 Harry Sunderland Award winner leaving Saints for Canterbury Bulldogs in 2020 where he has stirred up some brilliant reviews and interest from NRL rivals Wests Tigers and Melbourne Storm.

He also sparked interest in a potential Super League return with St Helens, Wigan Warriors, Warrington Wolves or Leeds Rhinos all of whom were seen as interested.

It has now been revealed by the Daily Telegraph that Thompson was previously told that he was welcome to look elsewhere by the Bulldogs as Phil Gould looks to balance the salary cap at Belmore.

It has also been implied by the publication that Gould’s willingness to move star players on has not finished and could see Thompson and others again told they can look for opportunities elsewhere.

Though Thompson seems keen on staying at Canterbury saying to Serious About Rugby League that he has “unfinished business” in Australia but wouldn’t rule out a return to Super League one day: “I don’t know. I’ve got some unfinished business over there but maybe one day.”

Phil Gould tells the British player he can go.

Wonders never cease.

I'd love to see that guy's xenophobia become his total undoing. Perhaps Thompson can go to another NRL club and utterly destroy Canterbury in an important game.
