PREVIEW: Connacht Junior Schools Cup Finals 2022
Another triple-header of Schools Cup finals is set for The Sportsground on Wednesday when the Junior A, Junior B and Junior C deciders are held at the home of Connacht Rugby.
First up at 12pm is the Junior C final when neighbours St. Raphaels Loughrea and Gort Community School go head-to-head. The Galway schools came through two high-scoring semi-finals, when Raphaels beat SCC 38-15 while Gort had five points to spare over a Sancta Maria side who until then had a 100% record in the competition.
The Junior B decider is equally set up nicely, with Coláiste Éinde Salthill and Coláiste Bhaile Chláir facing off in another all-Galway final. Both teams have been putting up big scores in their pool games so far so another high-scording affair is expected.
Then at 4pm it’s the main event as Marist College and Sligo Grammar meet for the right to be crowned Schools Junior Cup champions for 2022. If you need any proof that this game will go down to the wire, the two sides met in the opening game of the Cup season and it finished in a 14-14 draw. In the end both teams reached the semi-finals after wins over Garbally, and in the last four Marist saw off The Bish while Sligo Grammar narrowly beat neighbours Summerhill 8-5.
