‘My three-year-old daughter knows that’s a penalty’ – Lampard slams referees after missing Rodri handball vs Man City
FRANK LAMPARD claimed his three-year-old daughter could have spotted Rodri’s handball after Everton were denied a penalty in their 1-0 defeat to Manchester City.
Late on in the game at Goodison Park the Spanish midfielder attempted to control the ball inside his own area.
But he opted to needlessly move his arm towards the ball as the Toffees‘ players and supporters screamed for a spot kick.
Referee Paul Tierney was unwavering despite the appeals, before VAR decided to have a look.
And while it seemed clear Rodri had conceded a penalty, Tierney was then told that the check had been completed and it was not a spot kick.
Everton boss Lampard was left dumbfounded by the decision after the match as his side ended up losing the game – increasing their relegation fears.
He said: “I have a three-year-old daughter at home who could tell you that was a penalty.
“It is incompetence at best, if not that then someone needs to explain what it is.”

Meanwhile, Man City edged past Everton thanks to an 82nd minute Phil Foden strike.
The England international pounced on Michael Keane’s sloppy defending before poking beyond Jordan Pickford to clinch all three points for the champions.
But the penalty appeal moments later could have gone either way, with Rodri and City fortunate to come away unscathed.
Pep Guardiola‘s men now sit six points clear of Liverpool, although the Reds do have a game in hand.
Next up for City is an FA Cup fifth round tie against Peterborough on Tuesday.
They then host rivals Manchester United in the Premier League next Sunday in a mouthwatering clash.
