On the home front, the domestic football league also made the headlines for the wrong reasons as the handlers of the league did the unthinkable.

1. Victor Moses shocking after the World Cup

The Chelsea winger caught Nigerian fans unawares as he announced his retirement from the national after spending eight glorious years.

And it did not go down well with many supporters back home in the country but everyone had to result to their fate.

2. The premature end of the 2017/2018 Nigeria professional football league season

The Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) for the first time in history ended without teams playing all 38 games scheduled for the calendar year.

The League Management Committee (LMC) explained they had to produce a winner so as to present a representative on time to CAF for the Champions League and the Confederation Cup competitions.

This means that the Nigeria football calendar was not properly arranged by statisticians to meet up with international requirements.

3. Carl Ikeme goes into remission after he was diagnosed with Leukemia

It was no news that former Super Eagles was going to play at the World Cup after undergoing treatment for Leukemia.

The good news that came after many months of being absent from football was that he went into remission - a stage that certifies that he has successfully completed his diagnosis.

4. Super Falconets captain kneels down to receive team's $5,000 bonus from Sports minister Solomon Dalung

In preparation for the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup staged in France, the Falconets were camped in eastern European nation, Austria.

Team captain, Kemi Famudipi was captured kneeling down before the Sports Minister Barrister Solomon Dalung to receive $5,000 meant for the team as their allowances.

Some said the gesture was a sign of respect but majority argued that it was not necessary to stoop for the honourable minister.

5. Ahmed Musa double against Iceland and Ighalo's miss against Argentina which brought threats to his life

It was a mixture of joy and sadness involving Ahmed Musa and Odion Igahlo at the summer World Cup in Russia.

Musa scored two memorable goals against Iceland in Kaliningrad in Super Eagles second Group D match, one of which was nominated for the best goal of the competition.

On the other hand, Igahlo was at the receiving end from fans back home after missing a sitter against Argentina which many believe would have aided Nigeria in making it through to the last 16.

It did not end there, fans took to social media to threaten the former Watford striker and his family for causing pain to millions of Nigerians.
