Aston Villa star warns his team: ‘No excuses’ in the final stage of the season

0 3

The Aston Villa star has warned his team to avoid having excuses for their fatigue as the season comes to the final stage.

The Premier League 2025/26 is about to come to an end with six games remaining for most teams, including Aston Villa. They still sit fourth and collect the same points as Manchester United in third with 55 points but are only three points adrift from Liverpool in fifth. Yet, their draw result in City Ground last weekend was rather disappointing.

One of Villa’s key men this season, Matty Cash, has shared his concern, as they should have picked up three points instead, as mentioned in the club’s official site, avfc.co.uk.

“Obviously, disappointed, because every game we play, we want to win it, especially at the crucial end part of the season, but (we) move on from it.”

The Poland international who has netted three times this season then explained further how the game went in his view.
“In the first half, we probably had more chances; I think we dominated a little bit more, and then as soon as they got the goal, it was a little bit of a turnover. But they’re fighting for their lives; we’re fighting to get in the top four – I’d say a fairly even game.”

Warning on Fatigue

The right back shares the same opinion as Marco Bizot regarding their form last weekend. He also underlines the potential fatigue, which could disrupt his team’s campaign towards the end.

“This part of the season, when you’re fighting for such a big achievement, we’ve got such important games; you haven’t got time to think and to have excuses for feeling leggy. Obviously, we’re human; we’re going to be tired, but we’ve got such a big goal to achieve, so we’re trying to not let that get in the way.”

Furthermore, the former Forest man also adds the importance of his team to fight till the end, considering their rivals with better resources.

“We’ve got a lot of teams around that are in good form, fantastic players, and big budgets, so it’s going to be a fight right until the end. You’ve got the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea, and Man United all fighting for it, so we’re going to obviously stay focused, go right to the wire, keep picking up as many points as we can, and see where it leaves us.”

Aston Villa’s remaining games

Aston Villa are still competing in the Europa League as well, beside fighting for the Champions League spot in the league. Thus, it is understandable why Cash states the potential danger.

In their last outing versus the Tricky Trees, the Lions wasted at least three clear chances from Morgan Rogers, Ollie Watkins and John McGinn. Such a result really cost them their expected three points.

In their next six games, Unai Emery’s men still have to take on their two big contenders, Liverpool (home) and Manchester City (away), in the last two fixtures. They could be tough and decisive games, especially if Pep Guardiola’s men are still in the title race. Meanwhile, welcoming Sunderland and Tottenham can be as tricky as travelling to Fulham and Burnley too.

In the continental campaign, Villa could be facing off against Nottingham Forest again in the semifinal, should they be able to get past FC Porto. John McGinn and Co. are already halfway to the final four after their clinical 3-1 win in Bologna. Perhaps it is high time for Emery to rotate the squad for Thursday’s game as they play host to the Italian side in the second leg.
