Arsenal vs Chelsea: The Battle for Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche
Two of London’s biggest clubs are eyeing the same target this summer — and it could get expensive.
Arsenal and Chelsea are both in concrete talks to sign Monaco winger Maghnes Akliouche, according to reports from Media Foot, with the 24-year-old emerging as one of Ligue 1’s most exciting attacking talents.
Why Akliouche Is Turning Heads
Akliouche has been the heartbeat of Monaco’s remarkable turnaround under Sébastien Pocognoli, who replaced Adi Hütter earlier this season. Since Pocognoli’s arrival, Monaco have gone on a stunning seven-game winning run in Ligue 1 — and Akliouche has been central to every bit of it.
The numbers back up the hype: seven goals and eight assists across all competitions, including a standout display in Monaco’s 3–1 win over PSG at the Parc des Princes. He followed that up with another impactful performance in Sunday’s 2–1 victory against Marseille. Big games don’t faze him.
What Each Club Needs
Arsenal, currently leading the Premier League, have been in contact with Akliouche’s representatives for months. Despite adding Viktor Gyokeres, Noni Madueke, and Eberechi Eze last summer — all of whom have contributed to their title charge — Arteta clearly wants more attacking depth.
Chelsea have formally entered the race in recent days. Their summer arrivals largely disappointed, with only Joao Pedro genuinely hitting the ground running.
The Price Tag
Monaco are holding firm at a £52–60 million valuation — steep, but arguably fair for a player of his profile and age.
With both clubs needing that creative spark, expect this one to run deep into the summer window.
