89% passing: Man Utd must sign 26yo Brazilian star for £39m after Atletico Madrid "impasse"

0 16

Manchester United have been handed a boost in signing Atalanta midfielder Ederson following an ‘impasse’ in negotiations with Atletico Madrid.

The Red Devils have been long-term admirers of the Brazil international. They first looked at signing him before Manuel Ugarte arrived in the summer of 2024.

Back then, Atalanta had no desire to part ways with the prized asset, but the scenario has now completely changed with his contract expiring in June next year.

The Serie A outfit are aware that the upcoming summer presents the best opportunity to secure a transfer fee and have opened the door for the midfielder’s exit.

Atletico agreed personal terms with the player earlier in February, but there has been a complication recently, and there is no clear-cut agreement for now, as per AS.

Meanwhile, the La Liga outfit have also hit an ‘impasse’ with Atalanta and have shown reluctance to meet the Serie A club’s £39 million price tag for the 26-year-old ace.

Ederson previously snubbed the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United for Atletico, but the door is now open for the Red Devils to make a renewed approach.

United must capitalise on Atletico’s impasse and sign Ederson

We recently covered an opinion on why United must beat Atletico to Ederson‘s signature. Diego Simeone’s side had the upper hand on personal terms, but that is no longer the case.

The former Salernitana man would be a quality addition to fill the void left by Casemiro’s exit. He can operate as a defensive or central midfielder and has excelled with several key attributes.

Ederson has completed 89 percent of his passes in Serie A this term, winning 4.5 duels per game. He has also won two tackles per appearance with 4.4 recoveries. He has likewise excelled with his ball control, losing possession on just 7.7 occasions per game.

In comparison, Casemiro has lost the ball 11 times per league appearance this term. Ederson would be a good upgrade over his compatriot, given that he has a tireless work rate and likes to high-press opponents.

United previously spent £55m on Mason Mount when he was in the final year of his deal at Chelsea. Hence, the 39m valuation should not prove a stumbling block for United in the pursuit of Ederson.

The Red Devils must capitalise on Atletico’s impasse to secure a deal with Atalanta. The club have a good relationship with the Bergamo outfit, having previously signed Amad Diallo and Rasmus Hojlund.
