Big boost for Man Utd with club prepared to sell "incredible" star, could replace Luke Shaw

0 13

Manchester United have been handed a big boost in signing Arsenal left-back Myles Lewis-Skelly ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils are poised to make multiple defensive signings this summer. A holding midfielder will be signed, with Casemiro set to depart when his contract expires on June 30.

A new left-back could also be signed to compete with Luke Shaw, considering Patrick Dorgu has lacked defensive awareness and has looked more comfortable as a winger instead.

Lewis-Skelly is one of the top names on United’s radar to bolster the left-back position, and they have been handed a big boost with Arsenal ‘expected to listen to offers‘ for him.

The Gunners are aiming to secure at least £100m in incoming funds from the departures of Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri, who would provide ‘pure profit’ in their financial books.

Man Utd should swoop for Lewis-Skelly due to his immense potential

Lewis-Skelly had a wonderful breakout season with the Gunners last term. He made 39 appearances for the north London giants and caught the eye with several standout performances.

The 19-year-old had a 94 per cent passing accuracy in the league. He also won 70 percent of his duels with two recoveries and one tackle on average. He lost possession less than five times per outing.

Despite his sublime debut campaign, the youngster has fallen down the pecking order at Arsenal. He has become the third-choice left-back behind Piero Hincapie and Riccardo Calafiori this season.

Hincapie and Calafiori are 24 and 23 years old, respectively. Based on this, Lewis-Skelly will struggle for regular playing time at the Gunners in the future unless there is an injury crisis, with the duo sidelined.

Hence, we are not surprised that Arsenal are contemplating his sale. Lewis-Skelly, described as ‘incredible‘ by manager Mikel Arteta, could be sold for a package of around £50m during the summer.

In our view, United should still pursue a deal for the talented left-back, who could provide fierce competition for Shaw, who may need to be rested at times next season due to the extra workload.

United are likely to have better Cup runs next term, while European football will add to the workload. Shaw has had an injury-plagued career and could be restricted to regular starts in the league.

Lewis-Skelly would get sufficient game time in the remaining competitions. He could eventually replace Shaw in the league, too. Shaw will be 31 next season and could leave on a free transfer when his contract expires in June 2027.
