Aston Villa Keeping Tabs on the ‘Next Viktor Gyökeres’ for Summer Signing
Aston Villa have been monitoring the situation of a prolific goalscorer who has been tipped as a potential top striker for their summer move.
Ahead of the new season, Villa are looking to revamp their squad, particularly the front line. It is one side they need to improve, should they make their return to the Champions League. According to reports from Footballfancast.com
“Aston Villa are among a group of Premier League clubs to have carried out detailed checks on the Slovenian international.”
The player in question is Žan Vipotnik. He is currently playing for Championship side Swansea City and has been among the top scorers in the English second tier. Unai Emery’s men are expected to face competition from Leeds United, West Ham, Brentford and Everton, all of whom have shown interest in the 24-year-old forward.
Vipotnik has netted 22 goals and provided two assists in 44 appearances so far. Although his club currently sit 15th in the standings, the Slovenian international has emerged as one of the most promising attacking talents at this level.
The New Viktor Gyökeres?
Žan Vipotnik has been tipped as the “next Viktor Gyökeres”. The real Gyokeres, the Sweden international, rose to prominence during his time at Championship side Coventry City before establishing himself in Europe with Sporting Lisbon. He helped the Portuguese club win league titles prior to his move to Arsenal last summer.
The Slovenian forward appears to share similar potential as the Arsenal man. He is a typical number nine who is capable of linking play, thrives in attacking build-up situations and poses a threat from indirect free kicks.
Vipotnik has also made notable defensive contributions for his team, including blocks and clearances in deeper areas. His overall role suggests he can contribute beyond that of a traditional striker.
His Contract Situation
Villa may need to act quickly, given the growing interest from other clubs. The forward’s current valuation stands at around £15 million, making him a more affordable option compared to Inter Milan’s Marcus Thuram, who has been identified as one of the club’s targets.
The former Bordeaux man signed a new deal with Swansea City on March 20, extending his contract until the summer of 2030. However, remaining in the Championship next season could prove unlikely if Premier League clubs submit strong offers.
Villa are believed to view him as a good fit for their attacking line, potentially as a long-term option or even a successor to Ollie Watkins. His price tag could rise to around £30 million if interest intensifies.
Meanwhile, his backup option, Tammy Abraham, has been struggling to find form since returning to England. The former AS Roma striker has scored just two goals in 11 appearances for Villa, marking his second spell at the club following his time in the Midlands back in the 2018/19 season.
