92% passing: Man Utd must explore deal for "world-class" midfielder after surprise interview
Manchester United should make an ambitious swoop for Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo, who has refused to rule out a potential move away from Stamford Bridge.
The Red Devils are expected to sign a new defensive midfielder during the summer, considering Casemiro will walk away on a free transfer when his contract expires on June 30.
Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson has been mentioned as a top target, but Manchester City are currently leading the pursuit of the highly-rated England international.
Amidst this, United could have a surprise opening elsewhere with Caicedo refusing to rule out a potential move away from the Blues ahead of the next transfer window.
In an exclusive interview with Diario AS, he said: “You never know in football, don’t you think? I have a contract with Chelsea now.
“The truth is, I haven’t honestly thought about another club, about leaving London, but well, in the end, you never know in football. All I want is to enjoy myself.
“I have a contract and I want to keep playing as long as God allows. After that, we’ll see what happens.
“I have a contract, but we’ll see what the future holds. Let’s see what surprises await us.”
United should make an ambitious approach for Caicedo
Chelsea recently announced a staggering pre-tax loss of £262 million for the last financial year.
The club are set for a financial boost in 2025/26 with Champions League revenue, but they are in danger of missing out on the elite European competition next term.
The west London giants are presently sixth in the Premier League standings with 48 points, one behind Liverpool, who are holding the final Champions League position.
If they miss out on the competition, some key players such as Enzo Fernandez could move on from the club. The Argentine has publicly talked up a new challenge.
The Blues may also open the door to multiple big-money sales to boost their finances, and in our opinion, United should test their resolve with a record bid for Caicedo.
The 24-year-old is one of the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League. He has had a fine campaign with a passing accuracy of 92 percent in 26 matches.
The midfielder has also won five duels and three tackles per game with five recoveries. He has lost possession on just 6.8 occasions per game for Liam Rosenior’s side.
Caicedo, described as ‘world-class‘ by Jamie Redknapp, would be a clear-cut upgrade on Casemiro in terms of distribution, possession retention and duel-winning ability.
Isak signed for Liverpool from Newcastle United last summer for a British record fee of £125 million, and United may have to breach or match that price to purchase Caicedo.
Chelsea are not looking to part ways with Caicedo at the moment, but his recent interview suggests that he would be open to a new challenge away from the London side.
