Murray On City Win & Adams Impact

Head Coach Joelle Murray was 'delighted' to secure all three points at Petershill Park on a bitterly cold Wednesday evening clash against league leaders Glasgow City.

It was a tight first 45 in Springburn, as both sides made up for a lack of quality on the ball with ferocious battling in the middle of the park.

Eilidh Adams slammed in a stunning 20-yard finish into the top corner to ensure the travelling Hibees in attendance enjoyed an estastic journey home back to the capital.

"My immediate reaction is delight," Murray told Hibs TV. "Big, big three points for us this evening. It's always a difficult place to come, especially midweek.

"I think it's Glasgow City's first league home defeat of the season. That tells you just how much they've made this place a fortress.

"We’re absolutely delighted with the three points; really, really pleased. We always ask the players to come out and respect the opposition, regardless of who they are and what the record is on their home pitch, I think the girls certainly done that.

"I’m really, really proud of the girls and how they applied themselves tonight."

Adams' pinpoint strike ensured Hibs extended their unbeaten league run to seven matches, with the finish worthy of settling any match.

After giving everything to steal possession in the middle of the park, our number strode forward and picked out the top corner with a thumping effort; grabbing her 15th goal of the season in all competitions in the process.

"It was unbelievable. We know she's capable of that. You could see she picked it up, she drove forward.

"She could see the defence was dropping off. They weren't committing her. She lifted her head and she picked our spot, and it was an unbelievable finish. I can't wait to watch it back."

While delighted with the winner, Murray accepted her team were not performing to an acceptable standard in the first half - though she revealed her joy at the improved second half showing and the current morale within the squad.

"We spoke at half-time about the first half not being good enough, far from being good enough. Glasgow City were the better team this evening. But that doesn't always win you games.

"So, we spoke at half-time about how we can be better. We felt we were working a lot out of possession in the first half. And on the regain, we were sloppy. We were giving them it back. 

"It was really nice to see that the girls took that on board and we got the reaction that we asked for."

"They're buoyant," Murray added." I say it all the time, the trust and belief in this group is huge. It's not an arrogance. We believe in the quality within the squad.

"We'll now rest and recover. And we'll arrive on Sunday [to play Partick Thistle] in the best possible shape."
