International Round-Up: World Cup Qualification For Rocky!
Nine Hibees were on international duty across the break - read below to find out how they all got on!
Rocky Bushiri – DR Congo
It was an international break to remember for Rocky Bushiri as DR Congo secured their spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America!
It will be the Leopards' first appearance at the tournament in 52 years, in which DR Congo - then competing as 'Zaire' - took on Yugoslavia, Brazil and Scotland all the way back in 1974.
Before their crucial inter-confederation play-off, DR Congo played a friendly match against Bermuda in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Rocky started and helped his country to a clean sheet victory, seeing off the Caribbean outfit 2-0 - with goals from Fiston Mayele and Newcastle United's Yoane Wissa sealing the win.
The crunch match came against Jamaica in Estadio Akron six days later, as DR Congo confirmed their place at this summer's World Cup via an Axel Tuanzebe extra-time winner.
Rocky and DR Congo's group was pre-determined ahead of their play-off triumph, with the African nation set to take on Portugal, Uzbekistan and Colombia in Group K.
Martin Boyle & Ante Šuto – Australia
It was a winning camp for the Socceroos as they played their final two home matches before the World Cup in June.
Martin Boyle started in Australia's late 1-0 victory over Cameroon in Sydney - with Feyenoord full-back Jordan Bos scoring the winning goal on 85 minutes.
Ante Šuto earned his first call-up to the Australia national team and was an unused substitute in both matches.
Both he and Boyle were in the squad as Australia convincingly defeated Curaçao 5-1 in their farewell clash ahead of this summer's tournament.
Logan Jimenez – Bermuda
Hibs youngster Logan Jimenez earned his third cap for Bermuda in March as two Hibees faced off!
The 17-year-old appeared off the bench as a second-half substitute in the Gombey Warriors' behind-closed-doors friendly against DR Congo.
Meeting in the 50,000-seated Estadio Akron, Mexico, Jimenez came up against Rocky Bushiri as his World Cup bound side secured a 2-0 win.
Munashe Garananga – Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe were competing in the 2026 Four Nations International Tournament across the break.
Munashe Garananga started in Zimbabwe's semi-final clash against Botswana. Unfortunately, the defender was substituted inside the first half after picking up a knock and watched on as they sealed a 3-0 win over Botswana.
The Warriors would go on to beat Zambia in the final, with a late own goal securing their champions status.
Grant Hanley – Scotland
Returning from injury, Grant Hanley was named in the latest Scotland squad as the Tartan Army took on two tough opponents in preparation for the World Cup.
Named on the bench against Japan at Hampden Park, Steve Clarke's men would fall to a narrow 1-0 loss.
The same fate would follow at the Hill Dickinson Stadium in Liverpool days later, as Scotland lost out to Ivory Coast through a solitary Nicolas Pepe goal.
Kai Andrews – Wales U21s
Kai Andrews played the full 90 minutes as Wales secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over Belarus in Newport.
The win was vital to Cymru's chances of qualifying for the 2027 UEFA U21 European Championship, though a 4-0 away defeat to Denmark days later - in which Andrews played no part - dented their hopes.
Wales U21s now sit fourth in Group I on six points with two matches still to play while Belgium, Austria and Denmark are all joint together on 10 points.
Lewis Gillie & Luke Davidson – Scotland U19s
It was a successful camp for Lewis Gillie and Luke Davidson with Scotland U19s as they secured passage into the next phase of qualifying for the 2027 UEFA U19 European Championship.
The Young Team were defeated by Italy 3-0 in Airdrie before playing out a thrilling 3-3 draw against the Republic of Ireland in Kirkintilloch. Back in Airdrie, a crucial 3-0 victory against Poland ensured Scotland of a second-place finish in Group A2.
Gillie played every minute of the three qualfiers, whilst Davidson picked up his first international youth cap as a second-half substitute versus the Republic of Ireland.
