Eastside Tram Update

0 8
Probably boring for most but there is a semi-tenuous link to the club and the Sports Quarter in the latest 6-monthly HS2 update on the gov.uk site so I though it was worth mentioning.

Looks like the land through the Curzon St Station site, that the tram line through Digbeth (and eventually onto the SQ) runs on, is being handed over from HS2 to TfWM earlier than expected, September this year, so work is able to to start on the connection Millennium Point and the already laid track in Digbeth.

At Birmingham Curzon Street Station, the last of the 2,011 concrete piles, which form a key part of the foundation for the station, were completed in March. Work on the infrastructure required for the Midland Metro Alliance to deliver the Birmingham Eastside tram extension is progressing well, ahead of the first phased handover of the site to Transport for West Midlands in September 2026. HS2Ltd and the Midland Metro Alliance are leading workshops over the future operation of the live tram through the Curzon Street site to maintain a collaborative approach and ensure lessons continue to be learnt as delivery progresses.

Be interesting to see how they build a massive new station over a live running tram line.

Hopefully this accelerates plans for the further extension to the SQ.

It's also worth noting that for the past 18 months (since the project's management restructure and reset... and "coincidentally" a change in government) that HS2 has been consistently delivering things far ahead of their revised schedules.
