Time running out for £19m Man Utd signing, Carrick could lose trust soon

0 3

Manchester United winger Amad Diallo appears to be running out of time to secure his long-term future at Old Trafford.

The Ivorian has managed just two goals and three assists in 25 Premier League appearances this season.

For a player who has enjoyed regular opportunities, that return feels underwhelming.

Even when focusing solely on his outings as a right winger under Michael Carrick, his performances have lacked consistency and cutting edge.

Diallo has started eight of the last 10 matches and featured off the bench in the other two, yet he has failed to register a single goal or assist in that run.

Diallo came close to scoring several times, even against Bournemouth on Friday evening, but the finishing touch continues to elude him.

Despite his struggles, Diallo remains a trusted option for Carrick, partly due to a lack of traditional wingers in the squad following the departures of Antony and Alejandro Garnacho.

That leaves Diallo as a unique tactical outlet. He is a rare wide player willing to hug the touchline, stretch defences, and take on full-backs before cutting inside.

In contrast, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo are far more dangerous when drifting centrally rather than maintaining width.

The 23-year-old is no longer a prospect finding his feet at the Theatre of Dreams, having arrived in 2019 for an initial fee of £19 million.

Since then, he has made 90 appearances for the first team, contributing 16 goals and 15 assists.

When playing for Atalanta, he produced comparable numbers in nearly half the matches.

Diallo is a gifted attacker. His pace, close control, and dribbling ability make him a constant threat in one-on-one situations.

However, his decision-making in the final third, whether in picking the right pass or applying the finish, remains a clear area for improvement.

Diallo is still expected to be part of the squad next season, but the margin for error is shrinking.

The upcoming campaign could represent his final opportunity to prove he belongs at Man United for the long term.
