Match Report: Chesham United

It didn’t take long for Yearn to get off the mark. On seven minutes the Stones couldn’t clear their lines and Mitchell Weiss headed the ball to Yearn who dispatched a confident low finish past Lenny Holden.

Maidstone were struggling to get into a rhythm but they caused problems for the Chesham defence not long after this. Jephte Tanga did well to extend a leg and keep the ball in down the right. He delivered a dangerous cross which the sliding Callum Adebiyi put behind for a corner.

Holden was then called into action. This time he made a good block to deny Karl Oliyide.

On 32 minutes, Riley Court slipped the ball into Jamie Yila. Yila advanced into the box and then unselfishly squared the ball to Hamzad Kargbo who set Court and he blazed the ball well over.

But six minutes later, the Generals doubled their lead. Yearn played a one-two with Alex Lafleur before bending a fine finish past Holden.

At half time, George Elokobi swapped Kargbo for Christie Pattison and the Stones gave themselves a lifeline on 61 minutes, Yila beat the offside trap and from a very tight angle, his shot took a deflection off Callum Adebiyi as it went past Ben Goode and into the net.

But any hopes Maidstone had of getting back into the game were dashed five minutes later. A long throw into the box was met by Yearn who completed his hat-trick.

John Gilbert got into a good position but from the edge of the box, he shot over and at the other end, Mitchell Weiss’ fierce effort flew wide.

Then on 78 minutes, Yearn got his fourth goal to round off a fine performance. Oliyide crossed for Lafleur who brought the ball under control and laid it off to Yearn who drove the ball past Holden.

Lafleur was involved again late on. His effort looked goal bound only for Holden to push it away from the top corner.

Two minutes into stoppage time at the end of the game, the Stones pulled another goal back. Court played the ball into Pattison who drilled the ball into the net but this came too late to prevent Maidstone suffering their 13th defeat of the season.
