Italy face World Cup play-off injury worries: Scamacca ruled out, Bastoni in doubt
Atalanta striker Gianluca Scamacca has suffered an adductor injury that will force him to pull out of the Italy squad for the World Cup play-off, while Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni remains in doubt as he’ll miss tomorrow’s match against Fiorentina.
Italy World Cup play-off: latest injury updates
Atalanta striker Scamacca has been ruled out of tomorrow’s Serie A match against Hellas Verona as well as Italy’s World Cup play-off next week.
According to Sky Sport Italia, Scamacca has been diagnosed with an injury in his right adductor, and even if his recovery time is still uncertain, he’ll surely be unavailable until March 31, when Italy hope to play the World Cup play-off final against Wales or Bosnia and Herzegovina.
There’s bad news coming from the Inter training centre as well, as Sky adds that Bastoni will miss tomorrow’s Serie A match against Fiorentina due to a bruised fibula.
The Nerazzurri defender had sustained the injury in the derby against Milan two weeks ago and already missed last week’s Serie A match against Atalanta.
According to Sky, Bastoni remains in doubt for Italy’s World Cup play-off semifinal against Northern Ireland on March 26, but, unlike Scamacca, he hasn’t pulled out of the Azzurri squad.
Inter coach Cristian Chivu is expected to provide further updates at a pre-match press conference later today.
