Spiders and Ayr turn out in force for Foodbank
QUEEN’S PARK and Ayr United supporters combined to donate almost 200kg to Glasgow South-East Foodbank.
The latest charity drive, led by the Queen’s Park Supporters Association, also raised £436 in cash for the centre n Dixon Road, Govanhill.
It was the second donation day of the season after the overwhelming success of September’s effort which resulted in the club contributing the GSE’s largest single donation of 2025.
This month’s donations – taken to drop-off points at The city Stadium and local pubs The Bell Jar and Rose Reilly – took the total weight of food gathered to almost 800kg with a healthy financial contribution helping the centre operate and help those in need across the southside community.
Denise Ritchie from the foodbank said: “The team at Glasgow SE Foodbank are absolutely delighted with the generous match day donations received last Saturday when Queens Park hosted Ayr United.
“The food collection weighed in at a whopping 191.5kg and the financial donations totalled £436.17.
“We are once again overwhelmed at the generosity and compassion shown by the two football clubs, their players and supporters. Thank you so much on behalf of those in our community who need our support when they are struggling to afford the basics.”
On behalf of the QPSA, Richard Baillie added: “It was fantastic to see our supporters, staff and foundation teams, as well as local businesses responding once again with such great spirit and generosity – especially at this time of year when we know foodbank stocks are depleted.
“Thanks also to the Ayr fans who contributed and to the staff and customers at The Bell Jar and Rose Reilly for all of their efforts. We look forward to continuing to build our relationships with the local community and Glasgow SE Foodbank.”
Kieran Koszary, head of commercial at Queen’s Park FC, said: “It comes as no surprise to see another fantastic total raised for the local foodbank by our club supporters.
“After September’s success the QPSA were keen to do more and the club was only too happy to facilitate this once again and support such a worthy cause which does such good, and sadly important work, where we are in the heart of the southside community.”
