Tottenham maintain Mauricio Pochettino plan despite Roberto De Zerbi confusion

0 7

The Independent’s Miguel Delaney has revealed what his sources are telling him about whether Tottenham Hotspur have reached out to Roberto De Zerbi about taking over from Igor Tudor.

Tudor’s job appears to be safe for now, with the Croat winning himself some time after Tottenham’s 1-1 draw at Anfield.

However, reports from reputable outlets have suggested that Spurs have already spoken to candidates about replacing the former Juvenuts boss.

It is unclear if one of those is Roberto De Zerbi, who has been described as Tottenham’s dream managerial target by Fabrizio Romano, even ahead of fan favourite Mauricio Pochettino.

Journalist reveals contradictory information on Tottenham’s pursuit of Roberto De Zerbi

Miguel Delaney has now revealed that some of his sources at Tottenham insist that talks are already underway between the North London club and De Zerbi.

However, he claims that other sources are adamant that any move for the Italian would have to wait until the summer.

Delaney believes that it is Pochettino, not the former Brighton boss, who remains Tottenham’s ‘main ambition’ in the summer, but some among the club’s leadership want to speak to the Italian.

The journalist wrote in his Inside Football newsletter for The Independent: “There was a lot of conflicting information over the weekend regarding Spurs’ decision on a prospective next coach, with some sources insisting that talks were underway with Roberto De Zerbi, and others adamant nothing would happen before the summer.

“That may now be moot. Tudor will, of course, take charge of the Atletico Madrid game amid a changing mood – the effect of that single point. The main ambition for the summer remains to bring back Mauricio Pochettino, as previously reported by The Independent, but some in the hierarchy are willing to make contact with De Zerbi.”

How many more matches will Tudor get?

Reports indicate that Tudor will remain in charge for the Atletico Madrid and Nottingham Forest games, after picking up his first point as Spurs boss at Anfield.

That update, which came from Football Insider, suggested that the result in the relegation six-pointer against Forest could be ‘decisive’ for the 47-year-old’s future.

Vinai Venkatesham and Johan Lange will be hoping that Tudor can pick up some positive results and guide the team to safety so that they do not need to rush the appointment of a permanent manager or be forced to turn to another interim.
