Not Casemiro: Leny Yoro pushes INEOS to reward trusted Man Utd warrior with new deal
Manchester United young sensation Leny Yoro has sent a clear message to INEOS.
The Red Devils defeated Aston Villa 3-1 in the Premier League on Sunday.
Yoro and Harry Maguire formed a resolute partnership at the back, effectively nullifying Villa’s attacking threats throughout the contest.
The French youngster revealed after the game that Maguire had been actively guiding him on the pitch with valuable real-time advice.
He said (via the Daily Mail): “With all the experiences he has he gave me a lot of tips. He spoke to me a lot on the pitch, so this helped me a lot.
“He always speaks with me, like [dealing with] the striker, sometimes he speaks before the game, or at half-time, about positioning as well, so playing with him is really good for me.
“If he can stay next season, it’s really good for us. So I hope he’s going to extend his contract and he can stay with us. We’ll see, we’ll see anyway.”
INEOS must listen to Leny Yoro
Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez are the best centre-backs at Man United. Unfortunately, they have never started together in a back-four system at Old Trafford.
De Ligt has been sidelined since November 2025 due to persistent back problems.
Martinez returned from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in November. He enjoyed a solid spell under interim manager Michael Carrick but has missed the last four games because of a calf injury.
In their absence, Carrick required someone to step up and take ownership of the defence.
Maguire rose to the occasion. The former United captain is a leader of the defence and his influence within the defensive unit cannot be overstated.
His current deal at Old Trafford is set to expire at the end of June, with the club having already triggered a 12-month extension clause in 2025.
There is little doubt that Maguire has earned a new contract, potentially keeping him at the club for another 12 to 24 months.
He is arguably at the peak of his football intelligence and continues to rank among the most dominant aerial defenders in the game.
Replacing a defender of his experience, leadership, and reliability would likely cost United a fortune.
Rather than delaying the inevitable, United should act decisively and reward Maguire with the contract he clearly deserves.
With Casemiro expected to depart Old Trafford this summer, INEOS can ill afford to lose two key dressing-room leaders at the same time.
