'I can say': Michael Carrick breaks silence on future of Bruno Fernandes at Man United

0 2

Manchester United interim manager Michael Carrick has delivered his verdict on the future of Bruno Fernandes.

Fernandes has been in scintillating form in the 2025-26 season. He produced another heroic display as United defeated Aston Villa in the Premier League yesterday.

The 31-year-old was responsible for delivering two assists, taking his tally to 16 for the campaign.

Carrick described Fernandes as the decisive figure in a clash that has given United a significant boost in their push for a coveted top-four finish.

The 44-year-old manager was later asked whether the club would prioritise keeping Fernandes at Old Trafford this summer.

He said (via ManUtd.com): “Yeah, in terms of the club and moving forward, it’s difficult for me to get involved in too much of that.

“Bruno is definitely not someone we’d want to lose, I can say that. But the summer or beyond that, it’s difficult for me to go too far with that.

“Certainly, he’s important for us and he’s not one we would want to lose.”

United cannot let Fernandes leave

Clubs from Saudi Arabia circled around the Portuguese maestro last summer. They reportedly offered astronomical wages in an attempt to lure him to the Middle East, but Fernandes remained determined to continue his journey with United.

After the club endured a disappointing campaign that saw them finish 15th in the league and miss out on European football, it would have been easy for a superstar of his stature to seek a new challenge.

Instead, Fernandes chose loyalty, reaffirming his commitment to both the club and its passionate supporters.

The former Sporting CP playmaker has elevated his performances to extraordinary levels this season.

He recently became only the third player in Man United history to score 100 goals and provide 100 assists. The other two in this prestigious list are Ryan Giggs and Wayne Rooney.

His two assists against Aston Villa helped him break David Beckham’s record for the most assists in a single season (15).

INEOS cannot allow Fernandes to leave this summer, regardless of the offers that may arrive from elsewhere.

He is irreplaceable, untouchable and deserves utmost respect.
