Key info: Bearsted U23s

There’s an old saying: why do things the easy way?

That certainly seems true for Maidstone United’s under‑23s as the race for the SCEFL Development Eastern title reaches its final stretch.

The Stones looked on course to be crowned champions just a few weeks ago, but having dropped eight points in their last three games – and with Hastings United closing the gap – the title is suddenly very much back in play.

Nathan Baker’s side remain top of the table on 40 points with five matches left. Margate sit second, two points behind with only one game remaining. Meanwhile, fifth‑placed Hastings are on 27 points but have nine fixtures still to play.

Maidstone and Hastings are scheduled to meet on the final day of the season.

There will no doubt be plenty of twists and turns over the next six weeks or so, but the Stones are hoping to finish the campaign strongly.

The first opportunity to do so is on Tuesday night as neighbours Bearsted make the short journey along the A20. The Bears U23s are basement side with 10 points from 15 matches, although they have games in hand over the teams above them.

With no midweek first team fixture for the first time in five weeks, get down to the Gallagher to support our young Stones.
