Poole Town 2-1 Taunton Town – Match Report
Poole Town returned to winning ways with a second-half comeback in a 2-1 win over relegation candidates Taunton Town at Tatnam.
Joe Lea and Pat Suraci made four changes from the draw with Dorchester last Saturday with the likes of Kris Campbell and Charlie Davis returning to the starting eleven.
The match got underway infront of a crowd of 800 at Tatnam with both sides looking sharp from the very off.
The first real chance of the game for Poole fell to Samuel Ayo Faniyan, but his effort is well stopped by Freddie Godden in the Taunton goal.
The visitors certainly grew into the game as the first half progressed with chance after chance falling their way and forcing Adam Parkes into a few fine saves.
Jamie Richards went close for Taunton from a corner, but his headed effort was well held on to by Poole’s number one.
After serious pressure imposed by the away side, they finally took the lead through Dylan Jones after nice link up play down the left hand side.
The visitors went into the break with a 1-0 lead and work was certainly needed to be done by Lea and Suraci’s side.
Poole came out for the second half a rejuvenated side and immediately gained control of the game and it did not take long for them to find their equaliser.
After a number of players were congested within the Taunton penalty area, the ball was eventually poked home by Shaquille Gwengwe on the 47th minute to draw it back to level terms.
The Dolphins didn’t stop there and took the lead shortly after with a great ball into the area from Billy Lowes which was calmy slotted home by Selim Saied to make it 2-1 to Poole.
The Tatnam outfit continued to push on in search of a third after a fantastic start to the second half, but Taunton defended well.
Ik Hill went close for the home side after some nice build up with Gwengwe, but Hill’s half-volleyed effort was fired over the crossbar.
With twenty minutes to play, it was Taunton who had their tails up in an attempt to find a way back into the game.
The visitors went so close through Ollie Chamberlain as his long-range effort crashed off the underside of the bar.
Taunton piled on all the pressure and went close in the dying stages through Niall Thompson, but his effort drifted wide.
The Dolphins managed to hold on and secure a huge three points at Tatnam which takes Poole back up to 3rdplace in the Southern League Premier South with eight games left to go.
