As a "vile home counties type" I say mum.
So why does me calling my mother “Mum” suggest that I am ashamed of where I come from etc.?!
I was a South Yardley boy in the 60s when I started calling her Mum. I have always been a proud Brummie and forever will be.

No boycott by me because my mum passed a few years ago, a Bluenose born within a few hundred yards of St. Andrew’s. For whatever reason I always called her Mum and I never changed it nor would have wanted to because it’s so personal to a relationship.
