Mathys Tel reveals why Thomas Frank did not like him after one Tottenham disagreement
Mathys Tel has opened up on his troubled relationship with Thomas Frank and the disagreement he had with the former Tottenham boss.
As is always the case when managers get sacked, there has been plenty of dirty laundry aired regarding Thomas Frank’s time at the club.
It has been claimed that some Tottenham players did not like the caution-first nature of Frank’s tactics, with many seeing him as having a small club mentality.
There have also been claims that Frank did not have the personality to inspire the Spurs squad, as he was much less charismatic than his predecessor, Ange Postecoglou.
Tottenham forward Mathys Tel admits his disagreement with Thomas Frank
Mathys Tel had good reason to feel hard done by after being left out of the Champions League squad by Frank and arguably not getting the opportunities that his performances deserved.
There were even claims that Tel had expressed his desire to leave Spurs in January as he felt ‘unfairly treated’ by the Danish coach.
Speaking about his relationship with Frank, the Frenchman has now told podcaster Zack Nani: “I disagreed with Thomas on my role within the team, and he didn’t like me for it. He didn’t look to try and fix things. I was confused why I was on the bench a lot. I felt I could help the team more than I was.”
Frank may soon be back in the Premier League
Some pundits have suggested that Frank was always doomed to fail at Tottenham, as the club was never the right fit for his style of play.
However, the Dane proved himself to be a wily tactician at Brentford, and as Nuno Espiritio Santo did after his Spurs nightmare, one would not put it past the 52-year-old to prove his worth back in the Premier League.
In fact, reports indicate that three Premier League clubs are already eyeing a summer move for Frank despite his disastrous spell in North London.
