Tottenham face uphill transfer battle with Premier League defender eyeing move abroad

0 6

Tottenham Hotspur are one of several Premier League clubs eyeing a move for an experienced centre-back, but a new frontrunner is emerging in the transfer race.

Spurs fear that they may lose their star centre-backs, Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, this summer after another poor season domestically.

It appears that the Lilywhites are already making contingency plans by identifying centre-backs who can replace one or both of their star pair.

It emerged a couple of weeks ago that Tottenham reached out to a Bournemouth defender regarding a switch to N17.

Tottenham hold an interest in Marcos Senesi

The player in question is Marcos Senesi, who Tottenham are facing a battle to land this summer.

It has been revealed by TEAMtalk that while the Lilywhites have registered their interest in the 28-year-old, as have other English clubs.

Newcastle United, Sunderland, Aston Villa and Everton are all named as fans of the Argentine, who Bournemouth do not want to lose this summer.

However, Senesi ‘fancies a big move’ at the end of this campaign, and while Newcastle believe they can get the defender, it is another European giant who are the front-runners.

Barcelona in pole position to land Senesi

It is reported that Barcelona are preparing a proposal to sign the Argentine international after learning of his transfer desire.

In fact, a move to Camp Nou is described as ‘the most intriguing’ to Senesi’s camp among the various expressions of interest they have received.

One source close to the situation is quoted as telling the outlet: “There is a lot of interest in Marcos, but when Barcelona are interested, that is tough to ignore. He has not ruled out anything as yet, but fair to say Barca is a huge lure.”
