‘Not nice’ – Igor Tudor criticises Premier League’s harsh treatment of Tottenham player
Igor Tudor has reacted to the controversial video that was shared on the Premier League’s official social media handle about one of his Tottenham Hotspur players.
It cannot be easy being in the Tottenham dressing room at the moment, with the current set of players knowing that they could be the first Spurs squad to potentially be relegated for half a century.
Micky van de Ven has admitted the players know that their performances have not been good enough, especially at home.
The squad has been regularly booed off at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season, and they now find themselves on the brink of potential disaster while being in the middle of a major injury crisis.
Igor Tudor criticises the deleted Guglielmo Vicario video
If it were not enough for the players to be criticised in the stadium and by fans online, the Premier League’s official account has decided to join the pile-on against one of them.
The Premier League deleted a video mocking Vicario after Tottenham fans and the club itself complained that it was in poor taste.
When asked about the video, Tudor has now said (via Football.London): “I’m sure they are aware of the mistake they made, and they will not do in the future. Not nice, not nice. Vicario is a fantastic guy, a fantastic player. I spoke with him. He’s OK.”
Tudor admits modern players have to develop a thick skin
In an era where players’ mental health gets discussed so much, the social media landscape continues to explode with personal insults and even outright abuse.
Tudor admitted that modern players need to be strong mentally and develop a thicker skin to navigate this landscape.
The Tottenham interim boss added: “It’s part of the job, with the social media. For sure, it is not good, but we are living in an era of information. Every day, hundreds of new information bombarding these players.
“They need to be strong. They need to accept. For sure when I was a player I lived in a better world from that point of view. You could have your life as normal. Now there are two lives.
“One here and one in this (picks up phone) which is sometimes not too easy to manage, for them, for the young people they are. So they need to be very informed, very aware, to pay attention and try to stay as much as possible in the real world.”
Guglielmo Vicario will be looking to silence his critics this evening when Tottenham host Crystal Palace in a crucial match as Tudor’s side battle against the threat of relegation.
