Carrick makes 1 big change | Predicted Man Utd XI vs Newcastle United as £17m ace starts
Manchester United travel to St James’ Park for tonight’s Premier League clash against Newcastle United.
The Red Devils have been in superb form under interim head coach Michael Carrick. They have picked up 19 points from their last seven matches and are presently third in the league table.
United are currently three points ahead of fifth-placed Liverpool and can extend that margin to six. The Merseyside giants suffered a surprise 2-1 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers last night.
Hence, the club are well placed to qualify for the Champions League next season. We expect just one change from Carrick for tonight’s encounter against the Magpies on Tyneside.
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Predicted Line-up:
Senne Lammens has been United’s preferred choice in goal since his debut against Sunderland in October.
The Belgian star has kept five clean sheets and looks poised to start ahead of Altay Bayindir tonight.
The defence could witness one change from the 2-1 win over Crystal Palace last weekend. Diogo Dalot is a nailed-on starter at right-back.
Harry Maguire was substituted late due to illness, but we fancy him to recover in time to partner Leny Yoro in central defence. Carrick has confirmed that Lisandro Martinez is not ready to play.
Like Maguire, Luke Shaw was substituted against Palace as he was feeling unwell. The 30-year-old was taken off the pitch after just 24 minutes, which suggests his condition was probably worse.
Noussair Mazraoui had a good performance at left-back, replacing Shaw. He won 100 percent of his aerial duels and had a passing accuracy of 93 percent. The £17 million signing could make his first start under Carrick.
We expect no changes in the centre of the park. United have a 10-day break after tonight’s game before hosting Aston Villa at Old Trafford. Casemiro has sufficient recovery time and should start alongside Kobbie Mainoo again.
Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha are poised to continue in the wide attacking positions, while Bruno Fernandes is guaranteed to start in the number 10 position as the captain.
Benjamin Sesko is set to lead the attack for the Red Devils. The Slovenian sensation has been in superb form lately and has scored in four of his previous five league outings.
Carrick described Amad Diallo as a ‘big player‘ for the club in his pre-match press conference, but the Ivorian could be restricted to a second-straight substitute appearance.
