Chelsea and Arsenal went all out for £66.3m Man Utd sensation before transfer in 2025

Manchester United star Benjamin Sesko is already enjoying a superb debut season.

Sesko moved to United from RB Leipzig last summer for a fee of £66.3 million.

The Red Devils were far from alone in the race to secure his signature.

According to The Sun, Chelsea were so keen to sign Sesko in 2022 that they were ready to offer “whatever he wanted.”

Arsenal also seriously considered a move for the Slovenian international.

The Gunners were so desperate that they offered a higher salary than the one Sesko eventually accepted at Old Trafford. They ultimately settled on Viktor Gyokeres.

The 22-year-old has silenced his critics by netting nine goals and recording one assist in just 25 appearances across all competitions.

What makes that return even more impressive is the fact that many of those outings have come from the bench.

Pundits including Gary Neville and Roy Keane have questioned aspects of his game, but the young striker has responded in the best possible way.

Sesko is not very active on social media. This is one of the key reasons why he has been able to reduce the outside noise and focus on his developing his skills.

He not only possesses immense natural talent but also demonstrates the discipline and work ethic required to thrive at the highest level.

Blessed with a towering frame, explosive acceleration and thunderous shooting power, he has all the physical tools of a complete centre-forward.

It is easy to understand why Premier League rivals such as Chelsea and Arsenal were so eager to secure his services.

Chelsea have been searching for a reliable number nine for several seasons without finding a lasting solution.

Arsenal placed their faith in Gyokeres, a decision that has yielded better results in 2026 than during his initial six months at the club.
