Aston Villa team news: huge Tammy Abraham decision made for Premier League clash at Wolves
Manager Unai Emery has named his team for Aston Villa’s Premier League match against Brighton & Hove Albion this evening.
Villa are in need of a win at Molineux tonight in order to avoid the gap being closed behind them in the battle for Champions League places. The pressure is on and it’s time for the team to show what they’ve got in their locker.
Emery has made three changes from the team that started last Saturday’s draw with Leeds United in the Premier League but keeps faith up front with Ollie Watkins.
That means no start for Tammy Abraham, who’s been named on the bench along with Alysson. The Brazilian winger returns from injury at Molineux.
Three changes for Villa against Wolves
Emery has opted to switch up the left side of the Villa defence. Pau Torres returns to the starting eleven in place of Tyrone Mings, while Lucas Digne gets the nod at left-back.
Ian Maatsen drops to the bench, as does winger Leon Bailey. Jadon Sancho comes into the side in one of the more predictable changes of the season.
If the inclusion of Sancho isn’t much of a surprise, the continued selection of Watkins up front was predictable but will meet with disagreement – mine, for starters. Here’s hoping Villa’s record Premier League scorer can rediscover some of what makes Emery trust him in the first place.
