Tottenham identify Dutch star who is an even 'better option' than Kees Smit

Tottenham Hotspur are one of a whole host of top clubs circling over an Eredivisie starlet, who appears destined for a big transfer sooner rather than later.

Over the last month, a number of outlets have revealed that Tottenham are exploring a move for AZ Alkmaar midfielder Kees Smit, who has been turning a lot of heads with his displays in the Dutch top-flight of late.

However, it has been revealed that Spurs face a major roadblock in striking a deal for Smit, not least the fact that the youngster is wanted by other top clubs.

It has now emerged that Tottenham Hotspur and several others around Europe are now turning their attention to another young Dutch midfield starlet.

Tottenham are big fans of Ajax’s Sean Steur

The Lilywhites have allegedly set their sights on Ajax star Sean Steur, who is impressing in his breakthrough campaign for the Eredivisie club.

This is according to TEAMtalk, who say that Steur is now viewed by several top clubs as potentially being an even better option than Smit.

The report claims that Spurs have checked on the 18-year-old ball-playing midfielder this season, but they are not the only ones to do so.

Steur’s impressive performances have also attracted the attention of Newcastle United, Chelsea and Manchester City.

Additionally, scouts from Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester United have all made the trip to the Netherlands over recent weeks to watch Steur.

What is Ajax’s stance on Steur?

TEAMtalk say that some within Ajax believe that the 18-year-old could be their best midfield prospect since Frenkie De Jong.

There is genuine excitement at the club around Steur, which is why the Dutch giants are ‘determined’ to keep the youngster at the club long-term.

However, the publication adds that while Ajax are in a strong position since the midfielder is contracted until 2028, he may not remain at Amsterdam for too much longer.
