Tottenham in seven-horse race to sign £55m Atalanta star, but World Cup could inflate his price
A race for a £55m-rated Atalanta star is heating up ahead of the summer transfer window, with Tottenham at the thick of it.
There are several unknowns for Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the summer transfer window, not least their Premier League status, which is now under serious threat.
The Lilywhites also have to decide on who their permanent head coach will be in the summer, with Igor Tudor not likely to be at N17 beyond the end of this season.
However, regardless of who replaces Tudor, the expectation is that Tottenham are prepared to make ambitious moves in the summer after a quiet January window.
Tottenham in a seven-horse race for Atalanta’s Honest Ahanor
It first emerged ahead of the January window that Tottenham are fans of Atalanta’s Honest Ahanor, and it appears that their interest in the versatile defender has not gone away.
This is according to TuttoSport, who reveal that Spurs are one of several clubs who have been keeping an eye on the 18-year-old centre-back, who can also operate as a left-back or even a left wing-back.
The Lilywhites face competition from Manchester United, Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest and Atletico Madrid, who are all fans of Ahanor.
Additionally, Antonio Conte is also impressed by the teenager and may look to take him to Napoli, while AC Milan also have the player on their radar.
Why Ahanor’s value could skyrocket very soon
A few months ago, TEAMtalk claimed that Tottenham would have to pay around £55m to land the Atalanta star, but that could soon change.
This latest update by TuttoSport suggests that the Ahanor is now in line to be called up to Italy’s World Cup squad.
If the young centre-back does make the trip to North America and shines for Italy at the tournament, that could potentially make him even more expensive.
